Camera shots in music videos are quite important because it can relate with the audience by expressing thoughts and feelings, it can also be a way of showing the viewer what is actually happening.

Camera shots that are usually found in music videos can include...

Very Wide shots - Are used to show the artists visibility but the emphasis is on placing the artist in the

Wide shot -This is where the artist can be shown taking up most of the frame in a shot but the location/setting is still focused on.

Mid shot - This shot shows the artist from his/her waist  to head, and focuses , mainly on the subject but still giving an impression of the setting/location.

Medium close up - This shot is half way between a mid shot and a close up, it shoes the artist from the chest to head

Close up - These shots usually show the artist face or can show an object that the artist is holding maybe or even something where the camera focuses closely on.

Extreme close up - This shows the artists face extremly close, for example eyes or mouth to identify something it can have the effect of showing the audience the artists thoughts, feelings and emotions even showing lip sync which is commonly used in music videos

Genres - these are basically themes catagorised, characteristics which are different types within a form, showing specific conventions

What is the purpose of a music video?

The purpose of a music video can be to sell a song and in order to make you remmeber the song they might invoke a reaction.


It can slso give the viewer/listener a better interpretation of understanding the song. For example if its a narrative.

It can be used to entertain (show off talents from the artist/musician, for example dancing/acting.

To sell Cd's, its a way of promoting it. Creating a memorable visual for the song definately increases its chances for selling it.

Lastly it is a way of marketing for the purposes of exposure and expansion for the artist and profile.

The purpose of music video can also be to tell a story in a communication way, it can entertain the audience visually and can also individualise the artists and finally it can promote a message.

 

 

This relates to our music video because our rap music video includes many of these shots and have the same purposes. For example low angle shots, close ups are used in rap videos.



Also the purpose of making a rap video relates to the rap video, in our rap video we attempt to promote the song of the artist aswell as the artist, doing this and giving the audience what they want is good because this is how the income is generated.
